Early in November 2006, round table “Strategy of gradual integration of Russia and TMR, based on the outcomes of referendum,” presided by CIS Countries Institute Director Konstantin Zatulin, will take place under the aegis of the abovementioned institute in Moscow; on October 10, Transdnestr Supreme Soviet (parliament) Committee on Education, Science, Culture, and Childhood Chairwoman Olga Gukalenko informed at a press conference in Tiraspol, a REGNUM correspondent reports.

Olga Gukalenko reminded that Russian and the TMR MPs and businessmen will attend the forum. Such issues, like integration in social-economic sphere and distinctive features of Russian and Transdnestr political space, as well as TMR president’s initiative to establish prime minister’s post in the republic, will be discussed during the round table.

"On Friday, the State Duma made a statement, according to which, it recognizes the referendum to be legitimate and it supposes that the Russian Federation should pursue its policy, taking into consideration free will of the Transdnestrian people. In such a way, we have been made responsible for working out first steps of huge importance in the way of integration of the Russian Federation and the TMR," Gukalenko stressed.

It is worth reminding, referendum on the republic’s status was conducted on September 17 in Transdnestr. According to final date, 78.6% of republican citizens, i.e. 310,169 residents, who might vote, participated in the referendum. Two questions were submitted for it:

“1. Do you support a policy for independence of the Transdnestr Moldavian Republic and further free Transdnestr joining the Russian Federation?

2. Do you think it is possible to abandon independence of the Transdnestr Moldavian Republic with further Transdnestr joining the Republic of Moldova?”

97.2% of Transdnestr residents voted for their republic’s independence and its further free joining Russia. Only 1.9% of citizens voted against it. 94.6% of residents voted against possible abandoning Transdnestr Moldavian Republic’s independence and its further joining the Republic of Moldova; 3.3% voted for it.
