Chechen Premier Ramzan Kadyrov: I am not involved into Anna Politkovskaya’s murder
Chechen Prime Minister Ramzan Kadyrov disproved rumors on his involvement into murder of well-known journalist Anna Politkovskaya. Politkovskaya did not present any threat to me. Chechens do not kill women; woman is a sacred object for us, Kadyrov stressed; on October 11, a REGNUM correspondent was informed at Chechen governmental press office. According to Ramzan Kadyrov, all accusations against him are components of a dirty PR-campaign, which was launched by Russia’s and his enemies.
Chechen Journalists Union (CJU) released a statement on October 11, aimed at protecting Ramzan Kadyrov too. Such accusations, made long before the investigation is over and judgment is pronounced, are not understandable for us. To our regret, everything returns to hackneyed ascription of all serious crimes ‘to persons of Chechen nationality’, it is said in the official statement. The CJU members called on everybody, who is interested in objective investigation of the crime, to stay restrained in their assessments and to rely on law-enforcement institutions, being patient.
It is worth reminding, Novaya Gazeta observer Anna Politkovskaya was killed on October 7 in the lift of her block of flats.
