Transdnestr president: I would not like to start talks without guarantees
I quite support the concept of talks. However, I would not like to start talks without guarantees, Transdnestr President Igor Smirnov said on October 11 in Tiraspol, speaking to the press, after talks with a Russian delegation on Moldavian-Transdnestr settlement and Russian-Transdnestr mutual relations under new conditions were over.
As a REGNUM correspondent informs, Smirnov stressed: Today, we discussed, in the context of negotiation process recommencement, elimination of Moldavia’s abilities to attach foreign-policy or even domestic events, for example, in Ukraine, to settlement of problems between Transdnestr and Moldavia.
At present, about seven settlement plans exist. However, understanding of Republic of Moldova’s leadership fact that the parties should follow our agreements should forestall their discussion. Moldavia has been demonstrating its complete inability to conclude agreements for several past years. Foreign forces were repeatedly engaged in settlement process. Outcome will depend on will and intellect, which should be peculiar to politicians. We govern not wooden toys but a people.
Finishing his speech, Igor Smirnov thanked Russia for its assistance, rendered during the Transdnestr blockade, as well as assistance of its foreign ministry and other institutions. Russia demonstrated complete understanding value of people’s life, as well as its attitude towards double standards at talks on democracy, the president stressed.
