Abkhazia to propose to Russia to consider possibility of entering military and political alliance together
Abkhaz public intends to appeal to President Sergey Bagapsh calling him to start talks with Russia’s leadership to establish long-term treaty relations with Russia. Activists of several Abkhaz NGOs believe that Russia should recognize Abkhazia as an independent state and establish long-term treaty relations with the republic. As a REGNUM correspondent reports, text of the special address to the Abkhaz president has been already agreed upon and is to be signed on October 16 by leaders and members of all non-governmental, public, religious and political organizations in Abkhazia. The subject of talks, Abkhaz public believes, should be signing of a military and political alliance and entering a currency, customs and border union with Russia.
Meanwhile, Abkhaz President Sergey Bagapsh expressed his satisfaction with the UN Security Council resolution on Georgia. Finally, Abkhazia has finally waited until a fair resolution by the UN Security Council was adopted, and we are satisfied with the fact that the UN Security Council assessed the situation in the upper Kodori Gorge and condemned destabilizing role of Georgia in it, he told reporters in Sokhumi.
