Sochi 2014 to apply experience of Beijing 2008
As one of the candidate cities alongside with Austrian Salzburg and Korean PyeongChang to host the 2014 Winter Olympic Games, Russian city of Sochi has sent its delegation of the Soci-2014 Bid Committee to Beijing to attend the Fifth World Forum on Sport, Education and Culture, running under the aegis of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) since October 23 in the capital of the Summer Olympic Games 2008 Beijing; Ves Sport Agency was informed at the Sochi Bid Committee press office.
CEO of the Sochi 2014 Bid Committee Dmitry Chernyshenko, Deputy CEO Tatyana Dobrokhvalova, Director on marketing and public relations Andrei Braginsky, and Director on international relations Denis Gerasyov are members of the Sochi 2014 delegation, the Sochi 2014 Bid Committee press office informed. Attending the forum will enable the Sochi 2014 Bid Committee’s leaders to learn from the experience of Beijing Olympic Games 2008 Organization Committee (BOCOG). The forum will gather experts from the whole world to discuss the role of Olympic education and culture in modern society. The following topics are to be discussed: Olympic movement and multicultural milieu, Physical education and sport, Sport and social harmony, Development of Olympic education. The IOC top-level officials including Sergey Bubka, Frankie Fredericks, Robert Ctvrtlik, will speak at the forum. Special attention will be paid to the sport heritage created by the Olympic Games. The topic is especially close to Sochi’s Olympic bid, where sport complexes of the latest design will be constructed for future sport professionals and amateurs, for the whole Olympic family.
It is a great possibility for the Sochi 2014 team first-hand to observe integration of cultural and educational aspects into the Olympic program carried out by the Beijing 2008 Organizational Committee. Our attending the forum is an important step to achieving our main goal: for the first time, to conduct Winter Olympic Games and Para-Olympic Games in our country, said Dmitry Chernyshenko, Chief Executive Officer of the Sochi 2014 Bid Committee.
