Ukrainian politician: Ukraine will not recognize Transdnestr if it is not pressured by Russia

Leader of Progressive Socialist Party of Ukraine Natalia Vitrenko commented on air of Radio of Transdnestr October 27 on the position of Ukraine in the Transdnestr conflict settlement.

Vitrenko referred to a meeting of the Ukraine-USA coalition that took place in late September 2006 in Washington, a report on which was published in the Ukrainian Den daily Oct 12. Ambassador of Ukraine to the US Yury Shcherbak informed that to attend the meeting in Washington, deputies Vyacheslav Koval (Our Ukraine), Andriy Shevchenko (Bloc of Yulia Timoshenko), and four deputies of the Regions Party – Leonid Kozhara, Igor Shkirya, Andrey Pinchuk, and Yelena Bondarenko – were picked.

The coalition Ukraine-US was established in Washington in Sep 1991 – when the USSR still existed. President of Ukraine Leonid Kravchuk and several representatives of radical anti-Russian movement Rukh represented the Ukrainian side.

However, much more important was the US representation – Zbigniew Brzezinski, Henri Kissinger, and George Soros – three pillars of the aggressive Atlantist geopolitics.

At the meeting in Washington, the Ukrainian side was given recommendations, particularly, on the Moldavian-Transdnestr conflict. It was recommended to maintain a thoroughly coordinated with the US policy based on the principles of unity and territorial integrity of the Republic of Moldova with granting Transdnestr a “broad autonomy.” That is, Ukraine received the command not to recognize Transdnestr.

“Broad autonomy” is a wide concept. Progress in the issue of recognition is hardly to be expected if Russia does not proceed to a pronounced policy toward Ukraine and Transdnestr. Ukraine entirely depends on the Russian natural gas. If Russia wants to use this leverage to pressure Ukraine, this will be far more effective than the US instructions, argues Vitrenko.
