Tajikistan: Unfinished construction of Rogun HPS is more than $1.2bn worth
Agreement between Tajikistan government and Russian the Russky Aliuminiy Company (RUSAL) on finishing construction of Rogun HPS’a first stage has not been abolished yet by anybody, Tajikistan First Minister of Power Engineering Pulod Muhiddinov stated on October 31; a REGNUM correspondent informs.
According to Pulod Muhiddinov, agreement on finishing the object’s construction was signed with Russia in 1994; however, it did not function; in that connection, Tajikistan parliament denounced the document. Agreement with RUSAL consisting of 13 clauses functions; terms of construction have been recorded there; if these terms are not be kept, we will be forced to reconsider it, he added stressing that we specifically work with RUSAL concerning Rogun HPS; participation of any other parties has not been supposed yet.
He reminded the press that essence of the agreement signed with the RUSAL Company lies in finishing construction of the HPS’s first stage, which envisages construction of 225-meter high dam and putting into operation two power units due to investment of about $400-500mln.Also, Muhiddinov stressed that cost of the unfinished Rogun HPS totals, according to assessment of Tajik specialists, more than $1.2bn.
