South Ossetian authorities register increased activity of Georgian special services shortly before referendum
Activity of Georgian special services has increased in connection the referendum to be held in South Ossetia on November 12. A source at South Ossetia’s KGB informed a REGNUM correspondent: About 100 servicemen of Georgian Special Troops have additionally arrived to the area near the Georgian city of Gori (several tens of kilometers from Tskhinvali – REGNUM). According to the source, Chechens with experience of diversionary activity, who earlier fought in armed gangs in Chechnya, belong to the group.
At that, according to the KGB, certain provocations against Russian peacekeepers deployed in Georgian-Ossetian conflict zone are expected. About 60 units of winter military uniforms of Russian servicemen which may be used for committing acts of sabotage have already been bought, the agency’s source resumed. It is worth reminding; the South Ossetian government takes unprecedented security measures to guarantee public order on the eve of the referendum and the presidential elections.
