Jordanian observers satisfied by voting process in South Ossetia
Voting in the referendum and presidential election in South Ossetia go smoothly, without excesses, Jordan senator Jehal Momani, international observer at the referendum and elections, said at a press conference at the International Press Center in Tskhinval. He addressed words of gratitude to the organizers of the votes and expressed hope that the process would end as openly as it started.
Another representative of Jordan Ra'ed Qaqish, answering REGNUM correspondent's question about whether Jordan's parliament is ready to consider the declaration of the parliament of South Ossetia on the Genocide of the Ossetian people, said: ''We support your seeking your own sovereignty and support your state. We believe in justice of the international community. I am ready to consider the declaration of your parliament and introduce it for the consideration of our country.'' Deputy of Latvia's Saema Sergey Fedorov said that his faction is represented in Saema by 17 members, and he is ready to deliver the declaration on the Genocide to his faction for consideration and to inform the Ossetian people about the decision.
To remind, Oct 24, the parliament of South Ossetia adopted a Declaration on the Genocide of the Ossetian people in 1918-1920 and acknowledged the decision of the 14th session of the South Ossetian Regional Soviet of People's Deputies of 20th calling of Sep 20 1990 ''On the Rehabilitation of Repressed Peoples and the Genocide of South Ossetians in 1920'' and ''The Declaration on the Genocide of South Ossetians in 1920.'' It is specified in the Declaration that ''facts of purposeful depopulation of the people of South Ossetia by the government of Georgia in 1920-1921 had most grave consequences for Ossetians of South Ossetia.'' It is also said in the Declaration that based on available facts, the leaders of the national liberation movement of South Ossetia put forward demands of a purely democratic character, aimed at exercising the legal right of the 100-thousand peasant population for national self-determination: a) to have in South Ossetia a form of political order acceptable for the population, i.e., the soviets; b) to have a right to preserve political system that the population of South Ossetia has legitimately chosen, i.e., being a constituent part of the RSFSR, together with the part of Ossetia – North Ossetia.''
The Declaration also contains address to all democratic organizations of the world, government and country leaders to support the just demands of the people of South Ossetia: 1. To recognize the mass killings of Ossetians in 1920 in South Ossetia as Genocide and demand of $5mln in gold compensation of the inflicted national damage; 2. To recognize the right of the South Ossetian people to: national self-determination; to have a political system chosen by the people of South Ossetia in accordance with the acting Constitution of the USSR; to choose self-sufficiently on joining other national entities, up to creation of own national state entity.
