Transdnestr president: ''Every year, the world community gets a deeper understanding of Moldovan authorities' deceit''
Speaking on the results of the meeting of the OSCE mission and Transdnestr delegation Nov 12, president of Transdnestr Igor Smirnov said at a news briefing: ''the Republican leadership planned to explain to the OSCE envoys Transdnestr's position on such vital issues as the negotiation process, the peacekeeping operation, the future of the Republic after the referendum, and further communication with the world community,'' REGNUM correspondent reports.''I think we have accomplished our task,'' the president said. ''This does not mean that all the ambassadors agree with us, however, the world community with every year gets to deeper understand the essence of the deceit of Moldova's authorities who presents us in a wrong light. I think that the year-long work of the European Union mission has yielded a clear answer – there is neither smuggling nor drug trafficking in Transdnestr. We have translated the related documents in English and handed to all the ambassadors. This is already a fourth delegation of the OSCE. We have exchanged opinions on the issue of autonomy – as Europeans understand it and as Transdnestr understands it based on the example of Gagauzia. Autonomy, as Europeans understand it, means additional rights given to a territory; however, we think that in this case, everything is just the opposite.''
According to Smirnov, the large size of the European delegation speaks of an immediate interest of the OSCE to Transdnestr. ''Our guarantor country Russia is also a member of the OSCE. What is also useful is that we have an opportunity to tell our point of view directly to the ambassadors. For we are deprived of this opportunity due to our not being recognized, and what Moldova says is taken for incontestable truth,'' Smirnov said.
