Blast of mobile network operator's tower prevented in South Ossetia

On Nov 12, law enforcement agencies of South Ossetia have checked an attempt to blast a tower of mobile network operator Ostelecom located near the entrance to the city of Tskhinval, REGNUM correspondent was informed at the state committee for information and press of South Ossetia, referring to the South Ossetian interior ministry's press office. The incident happened during the referendum and presidential elections held in the unrecognized republic today, Nov 12.

Early Nov 12, Georgian mobile network operator GEO MAGTI switched off cellular communication of its subscribers in the territory of South Ossetia. Speaking to REGNUM correspondent, however, the Georgian operator denied that the interruption of the telecommunication was intentional and timed to coincide with the referendum and presidential elections held in South Ossetia. Neither did it confirm the interruption's being connected to technical problems.

A Russian mobile network operator MegaFon and several Georgian operators, including GEO MAGTI, work in the territory of South Ossetia.
