The UNSC and Germany to discuss draft resolution on Iran
On November 13, five permanent member states of the UN Security Council and Germany will discuss draft resolution on Iranian nuclear program, Ekho Moskvy Radio informs.
At present, the six cannot agree on the final version of the resolution. Russia categorically opposes mentioning in the resolution text such steps as freezing Iran’s foreign accounts or banning Iranian citizens’ traveling abroad. According to Moscow, it will lead only to Iran’s isolation.
The Islamic Republic has recently rejected a package of economic benefits offered by the west in exchange for freezing Iranian nuclear research program. Iranian leadership once again confirmed its determination to continue uranium enrichment. Meanwhile, the Islamic Republic’s Supreme National Security Council Secretary Ali Larijani recently threatened to stop all talks with the international community if the UN SC passes the resolution on the Iranian nuclear program. The Iranian nuclear program is supposed to be a major issue at the talks of Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert with US President George Bush Nov 13 in Washington.
