Kamchatka: Captain of foreign vessel faces prospect of five-year imprisonment for fishing red king crabs
Kamchatka environmental prosecutor’s office brought criminal proceedings against captain of Panama’s vessel detained for poaching in the Sea of Okhotsk on November 5 on the charge of violating legislation on the Russia’s exclusive economic zone (Russian Criminal Code article 253), REGNUM correspondent was informed at the prosecutor’s office on November 13.
Border guards found aboard the vessel over 140 tons of prohibited for fishing red king crabs $2mln worth. The crew did not have any permitting documents for fishing and haul transportation, as well as equipment for technical control.
At present, the captain has been released on his own recognizance in Kamchatka.
