The Russian government has not decided yet on pricing in cooperation of its energy monopolies with Azerbaijan in 2007. No decision has been made yet concerning either Gazprom or RAO UES. Russia’s trade representative in Baku Yuri Shchedrin, who started his term on November 8, made the announcement, a REGNUM correspondent repots.

On November 22, Shchedrin had a meeting with leadership of the Azerbaijani-Russian Business Cooperation Chamber. According to Shchedrin, “neither the price of $230 for 1,000 cubic meters nor reducing energy supplies are settled matters. We are continuing talks.”

In 2006, Azerbaijan is to buy 4.5 billion cubic meters of gas from Russia at the price of $110, but it announced it would refuse or cut down purchasing of the Russian gas if the price is raised twofold. Besides, 1 billion kilowatt-hour of energy are being imported from Russia.
