Official: South Ossetia will never be a part of Georgia
South Ossetia will never be a part of Georgia, South Ossetian Ambassador in Moscow Dmitry Medoyev said.
A REGNUM correspondent quotes Medoyev as saying: We have always said and continue saying that we are ready to have a civilized dialog with the Georgian side. South Ossetian President Eduard Kokoity reiterated that there is no alternative to political settlement of the conflict. I believe Georgia should take a step and recognize South Ossetia. It is a civilized democratic way. It is clear, a political will is needed for it, and, probably, the current Georgian leadership is not ready for it. At the same time, the ambassador noted that sooner or later, when the Georgian people come to power instead of people paid by the West, the first thing the former will do will be recognition of South Ossetia’s independence. And we shall sign a treaty on peace, neighborly relations and cooperation.
Dmitry Medoyev also stressed that at the November 12 referendum striking majority of participants of the voting confirmed the policy for independence pursued by the South Ossetian leadership. For 16 years we have been constructing our independence under tough conditions, under three interventions, under the information war carried out by Tbilisi. Independence is the will of the South Ossetian people, it is their right. South Ossetia will never be a part of Georgia, Dmitry Medoyev concluded.
