Abkhaz president: There is no alternative for Russian peacekeepers
Russian peacekeepers conscientiously serve in accordance with their mandate; there is and there will be no alternative for them; Abkhaz President Sergey Bagapsh stated at a news conference in Sokhumi. We have never supported, and we will not support wish of Georgia and several other countries to substitute Russian peacekeepers by any joint international peacekeeping forces, Bagapsh stated.
The president stated that if Russian peacekeepers are withdrawn from the conflict zone, Abkhaz armed forces and mobile peacekeeping forces of Abkhazia, Transdnestr, and South Ossetia will substitute them. At that, Bagapsh reminded that an appropriate agreement was reached by presidents of the tree republics in summer 2006, a REGNUM correspondent in Sokhumi informs.
