Scotland Yard ascertains route of Litvinenko’s poisoner
Yesterday, former FSB officer Alexander Litvinenko was buried in London, who expressed his will before death to be buried under Muslim ceremony. The funeral took place at London’s Highgate Cemetery. Akhmed Zakayev, who was invited to the ceremony, reminded to the people on Litvinenko’s last will, who, according to Zakayev, asked, when it becomes possible, to take his remains to Caucasus and be buried there in a true Muslim cemetery. As Kommersant reports, Zakayev said that he would some day fulfill his friend’s last will.
Meanwhile, Scotland Yard managed to ascertain where exactly ex-FSB officer Alexander Litvinenko was poisoned. Under the most recent theory, it happened at the lobby of the Millennium Hotel in central London, where on November 1 Litvinenko met Andrei Lugovoi and Dmitry Kovtun. Earlier, UK Health Protection Agency informed that seven employees of the Pine bar were tested positive for polonium 210. According the agency’s experts, Litvinenko was poisoned through a cigarette or a drink.
As The times informs on December 8, the mortal cocktail, according to the investigation, could have been made in one of the hotel rooms. Trails of polonium 210 were found in a fourth-floor room, where a Russian stayed (his name was not disclosed). Scotland Yard believes that a poisoner was pursuing Litvinenko through the whole London in order to find an opportunity to implement the plan. First time, he attempted to poison the former FSB officer at a sushi bar, where he met Mario Scaramella. This can explain presence of radioactive traces at the eatery. However, the poisoner managed to fulfill his plan only in the Millennium Hotel bar.
Former FSB officer Litvinenko died at London University College Hospital on November 23. After he died, radioactive polonium 210 was found in his body. On December 7, Russia’s Prosecution General’s Office instituted criminal proceedings on the case of Litvinenko’s death.
