Anna Politkovskaya named World Press Freedom Heroe
Russian journalist Anna Politkovskaya was posthumously named World Press Freedom Heroe, Ekho Moskvy Radio informs. The title was awarded to the Russian reporter by World Press Institute, which promotes and protects freedom of speech worldwide.
Meanwhile, Russia’s President Vladimir Putin informed, investigation of Anna Politkovskaya’s murder produced first effects. In an interview to Mexican publisher Mario Vasquez Rana published on the presidential web-site, the president said: As far as I know, relatives of the late Anna Politkovskaya are satisfied with the investigation. However, the president did not give further information on the investigation process. At that he stressed that the Russian authorities did not take any special commitments to investigate the murder and it was investigated as any other crime in the framework of the law.
Anna Politkovskaya was killed on October 7, 2006 at her apartment block. Investigators of the crime believe her professional activity was cause of the murder.
