Russian foreign minister and US state secretary discuss UN SC draft resolution on Iran
Russian Minister of Foreign Affairs Sergey Lavrov and US State Secretary Condoleezza Rice discussed process of elaboration of the UN Security Council draft resolution on the Iranian nuclear program in a telephone talk on December 18, Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs information and press department informed. According to the report, the parties touched upon some aspects of the Russian-American relations.
It is worth mentioning, Russia finds it inadmissible to impose tough sanctions against Iran, so they can result in full isolation of the country. At the same time, Moscow insists upon continuing the talks with Tehran. It is also needed to be reminded that the group of six countries (five UN SC permanent members and Germany) managed to agree on the text of the last resolution on Iran that includes a series of sanctions against the country, taking into consideration the fact that Tehran failed to fulfill previous resolutions of the UN Security Council that oblige it to fully suspend its activity in uranium enrichment. As Russia’s Ambassador too the UN Vitaly Churkin said, there are only several issues of technical nature left that are still needed to be agreed upon.
