Yushchenko accused of trying to usurp security ministries
The Regions Party faction accused Ukrainian President Viktor Yushchenko of unconstitutional attempts to establish control over activity of security ministries in connection with the situation around appointments of Interior Ministry officials. Deputy head of the faction Yevgeny Kushnaryov made the statement today at the morning session of the Ukrainian Supreme Rada, a REGNUM correspondent in Kiev informs.
Our faction is indignant at the fact that the procedure of appointing deputy interior ministers provoked an absurdly militant reaction from the side of the Ukrainian president. The conflict was caused by the position of the presidential secretariat that again substituted constitutional norms and legislation, which threatens national security and democracy, undermines grounds of Ukraine’s legal system, Kushnaryov particularly said. The MP also noted that he found unconstitutional presidential claims to agree candidatures of heads of security ministries with him, as such nominations are competence of the government.
On December 15, Ukraine’s president Viktor Yushchenko ceased force of several governmental resolutions to appoint seven deputies of the interior minister. As the presidential decree says, the government made the decision in violation of presidential constitutional powers concerning providing national security, governance of the ministry and observation of human rights.
