Nino Burjanadze: Georgia will allow nobody to speak with it in edifying tone

The talk itself of Russian officials on immoral policy is immoral and inappropriate when people are being deported from Russia under their ethnic origin, speaker of the Georgian parliament Nino Burjanadze said commenting to reporters on a statement made by Russian foreign minister Sergey Lavrov. “On what moral can they speak, if people are being expelled under their ethnic origin, when children are ousted from schools,” Nino Burjanadze said. She pointed it out that until now no responsibility has been put on anyone in Russia for such actions.

“I think, the key problem of our relations is really a difference in moral principles and values. I do confirm once again that Georgia has always been ready and it is ready now for a dialog with the Russian side, but it will allow nobody to speak with it in an edifying tone,” the speaker said.

Russian Minister of Foreign Affairs Sergey Lavrov, commenting at a news conference on a statement of Gela Bezhuashvili, Georgian foreign minister, that Russia and Georgia "do differ in questions of moral and mentality, responded that he was not inclined to agree with the latter and that “Georgia’spolicy cannot be called either conscientious or moral.”
