Members of Georgian Diaspora in Ablkazia call upon international community to condemn actions of official Tbilisi
On December 22, a round-table discussion titled For Peace and Stability in Caucasus was held in Sokhumi with participation of representatives of the Georgian Diaspora in Abkhazia. Participants of the discussion passed a statement on it. REGNUM publishes full text of the resolution.
The unsettled Georgian-Abkhaz and Georgian-Ossetian confrontations; increasing, especially recently, tension in the Russian-Georgian relations are key factors of absence of guaranteed peace and stability in Caucasus.
Participants of the round-table discussion note that current Georgian authorities’ activities are aimed at destroying basic values, on which the intergovernmental and, which is more important, human relations, like peoples’ friendship, mutual respect, good neighborhood, taking into account mutual interests, have been always based upon.
Today Tbilisi is trying to reject everything positive that they had in relations with Russia, they pronounce it as an enemy and the one to blame for all their failures, including the economic collapse and the more and more worsening living condition of their own people.
The peaceful settlement process of the Georgian-Abkhaz conflict is being constantly interrupted as a result of Georgia’s provocative actions now in Gali District now in the upper part of Kodori Gorge and unwillingness to implement agreements reached by the parties. Moreover, Georgian leadership practically refuses to implement the UN Security Council resolution on Kodori Gorge.
All this, accompanied by Georgia’s militarization and belligerent statements of its leadership, creates a real threat of resorting to force in settlement of the problems in relations with Abkhazia.
Claims to withdraw Russian peacekeepers from the conflict zones confirm the assertive policy of the Georgian government.
As a result of such policy pursued by the Georgian authorities, people of Abkhazia, South Ossetia and Georgia have to live under conditions of constant anxious expectation.
There is only one thing that people want – to have an opportunity to live peacefully and develop, to use inalienable rights including the right to determine their fate. The people of Abkhazia build their own independent state, strive for establishing closest relations with Russia and pose threat to nobody.
Participants of the round-table discussion are unanimous on the idea that the assertive policy towards Abkhazia and South Ossetia, the anti-Russian position of the Georgian leadership will not result in any positive results and do not correspond with interests of the Georgian people.
We call upon the international community to condemn actions of the official Tbilisi aimed at exacerbating tension in Caucasus, call Georgia to act by only peaceful means to reach political settlement of the conflict situations.
