Saakashvili: Georgia will turn down Russian gas as soon as it starts receiving it from Azerbaijan
Azerbaijan will be major supplier of gas to Georgia, and as soon as technical problems are solved ate the Shah Deniz gas field – in a month or two we shall not need Russian gas. Georgian President Mikhail Saakashvili announced at a meeting with Georgian businessmen. At present time, Georgia will have to pay the high price for the Russian gas, the president added.
It is worth reminding, Gazprom has already signed annual contracts with four Georgian companies on delivery of natural gas to Georgia in 2007 with total amount of 1.45 billion cubic meters.
