“The law on the Cabinet of Ministers is violating the Ukrainian constitution. It a way to a deadlock, to nowhere; its adoption breaks the clear agreements achieved by the president, the prime minister, the Supreme Rada chair and ratified by the National Unity Universal. It is undermining of the political situation and stability in Ukraine. The most important thing is the matter concerns destabilization of governmental agencies,” Ukraine’s President Viktor Yushchenko said on Thursday, a REGNUM correspondent informs.

Saying that the law passed by the parliament violates the constitution, the president also added: “Respecting the decision made by the parliament passed by over two thirds of the constitutional membership of the Supreme Rada, I propose to the parliament to change only those clauses that contradict the Ukrainian constitution. As for the ideology of the law, I suppose that we return to it a bit later, after we finish our discussion on the first part of the problem.” The president has a right to introduce the law passed by the parliament on January 12 for the second time. “I propose to the parliament and the government together with the presidential secretariat to work on the amendments and take them into account while finally adopting the law,” the president concluded.

On January 12, the Ukrainian Supreme Rada passed the law on the Cabinet of Ministers at a plenary session. Overall, 366 MPs voted for the law, 185 of them from Regions Party, 121 from BYT, 31 from the Socialist Party, 21 from the Communist Party, and 8 nonpartisan. Earlier, the Ukrainian president put a veto on the law, “as his 86 amendments to the first redaction of the law were ignored by the parliament.”
