OSCE appreciates peacekeepers’ activity in security area (Transdnestr)
A spokesman for the OSCE Mission in Moldova, Oleg Boyandin, said at a session of the Joint Control Commission in Bendery on January 18, that he appreciated actions of peacekeepers in regulating the incident that occurred in the security area on January 12.
It worth mentioning, according to members of the Transdnestr mission in the JCC, on January 12, Moldovan police without coordination with the Transdnestr side and Russian peacekeepers one-sidedly transferred a road police check-point from the entrance to the village of Rogi to 670 m further in the Transdnestr territory practically violating the border of the Transdnestr Moldovan Republic. The Moldovan police explained their actions by a wish to guard Moldovan agricultural lands in the Transdnestr territory. In its turn, the Transdnestr side drew up additional police forces. So, about a hundred of officers from both Transdnestr and Moldova turned out to be involved in the incident. On January 13, at a session of the JCC, an agreement was signed that a joint Russian-Moldovan-Transdnestr peacekeeping check-point will be established on the site of the conflict. And Transdnestr and Moldovan police would withdraw their troops from there.
As a REGNUM correspondent informs, according to Boyandin, both the commandant and military observers were acting well-organized and professionally, which allowed to prevent from exacerbation of the incident.
According to military observers, at present moment, the situation in the area of the incident is stable. Discussion of the issue will be continued in a week, at the next session of the JCC, on January 25.
