Lugovoi knows nothing on Scotland Yard’s intentions
The Guardian newspaper (UK) says that UK authorities will request Russia to extradite Andrei Lugovoi, a Russian businessman suspected of being involved in murder of former Russian FSB officer Alexander Litvinenko. According to the newspaper, it can happen as early as in February.
Citing sources at the UK government, The Guardian writes that extradition of Lugovoi can be held in exchange for extradition of Boris Berezovsky to Russia.
I am not guilty. I am in no way connected with Litvinenko’s murder, Lugovoi told the paper, saying he knew nothing about Scotland Yard’s intention to request for his extradition. There have been no official comments on the reports from either London or Moscow.
On January 25, another London newspaper, The Independent, wrote that materials of the British investigation allegedly contain evidence of Andrei Lugovoi and Dmitry Kovtun’s involvement in the Litvinenko murder. However, according to the newspaper, there will be no charges brought against them, as Scotland Yard officers failed to communicate with them fully during their visit to Moscow.
