Teenager supposedly infected with bird flu dies in Azerbaijan

On January 28, a resident of Daiykend village (Azerbaijan), Azhdar Alesker oglu Askerov, 14, died at the Azerbaijani Pulmonology Research Institute. He was delivered to the hospital on January 24 and diagnosed with bilateral pneumonia, Radio Liberty reports. As REGNUM informed earlier, the Azeri Healthcare Ministry send the patient’s tests to WHO’s reference laboratory to determine whether the boy was infected by bird flu.

The boy was a relative to the Askerovs family living in the same village, three members of which died of bird flu in March 2006.
