US House of Representatives to consider resolution condemning shooting of Hrant Dink
US Congressman Joseph Crowley introduced legislation in the US House of Representatives condemning the Agos newspaper editor Hrant Dink’s assassination. According to the congressman, it is very important that the US Congress passes the resolution condemning shooting of Hrant Dink and calling on Turkey to protect rights of all religious and ethnic minorities. We ask that the government of Turkey remove Article 301, which is an outright attack on the fundamental right to freedom of speech. Authorities should do all in their power to stop acts of intolerance, intimidation and violence against individuals who exercise this fundamental right from happening, Joseph Crowley said.
The resolution calls the House of Representatives to condemn killing of Hrant Dink and call on Turkish authorities to continue investigating the circumstances and fully prosecute those involved in the murder. Besides, the document contains a call for Ankara to take action in preserving freedom of speech and cancel Article 301 that envisages a criminal punishment for public statement on the Armenian Genocide, Armenian Assembly of America is quoted as reporting by PanARMENIAN.Net.
