US analyst: Georgia in fighting for its sovereignty became the most dependant state from Russia
Georgia, in fighting desperately for its sovereignty and independence, became the most dependant state from Russia; practically, it turned out to be for Russia the same that Cuba became for the United States, US expert, director of the Russia and Eurasia Project at the World Security Institute Nikolai Zlobin announced at a news conference in Kiev yesterday, a REGNUM correspondent reports. Georgian President Mikhail Saakashvili has all chances to become a kind of Fidel Castro, the expert added.
Speaking on Georgia’s prospects of entering NATO, Nikolai Zlobin said that today the issue is not on the agenda for international community. Georgia made a big mistake persuading Russia that it is Moscow that has keys to solution of the Georgian problem; besides, unsettled conflicts still continue in the Georgia territory, which are a serious obstacle on the way to NATO, the analyst noted.
Moreover, he mentioned that Washington understands the practical language of the former Soviet countries’ interests much better when imitation of national interests takes place performed by the group at power. Elaborating on his theory, the analyst continued: I have just come from Georgia. One of the most discussed subjects with Georgian leadership was the following: they tell me: Look, we have done so much for the United States and received nothing in response. And I kept answering to them: if you were doing it for the United States, you good guys, Washington will thank you, but naturally, it will not pay anything. You’d better do something in your interests and you would have gained from it anyway.
