Oles Doniy: Tarasyuk’s resignation is part of large negotiation process between Yushchenko and Yanukovich
Boris Tarasyuk’s resignation from the post of Ukraine’s Foreign Minister has become an evident necessity. Moreover, the president will have to coordinate next candidature with the coalition with framework of the negotiation process, Ukrainian political analyst Oles Doniy told a REGNUM correspondent today.
The fact that Minister Tarasyuk resigned is a correct action. Because lack of a properly acting foreign minister put into a deadlock the whole Ukrainian foreign policy. As far as I know, recently Tarasyuk was pressed not only from inside the country, but from abroad as well. I had meetings with officials from various diplomatic missions, with analysts, and most of them said that recalling the minister is the only way out now that can solve the situation, the expert said. According to him, on the other side it is clear that the resignation was conducted on the background of talks between the president and the government after the parliament passed the law on the Cabinet of Ministers. Every new stage of the talks passes with worsening starting conditions for Yushchenko. And this poses certain problems for the president, so, Tarasyuk’s resignation is just a part of the big negotiation process.
Oles Donyi expressed opinion that speaking on perspectives, it is necessary to take into account that now not only the president has the right to introduce the candidature. And if in the very beginning of the conflict around Tarasyuk the coalition was ready to support any candidature proposed by the president, but the situation changed. Now the most possible candidature cited is Alexander Chalyi. But I would hesitate with making forecasts, because it is already clear; candidature of the new foreign minister will be determined by talks between the president and the government, Oles Donyi believes.
Earlier, on January 30, Boris Tarasyuk sent in his resignation and after a long talk with President Yushchenko it was accepted.
