NATO is sneaking up to Iran via Turkey, Rice threatens with economic sanctions
NATO addressed Turkey asking to open its air space in case of a military operation against Iran. As CNN-Turk reports, the matter also concerns Ankara opening its land frontiers with Iran. The TV-channel does not specify whether Turkey granted its permission for the alliance’s request (Turkey has been NATO member for more than 50 years).
At the same time, in an interview to ABC US State Secretary Condoleezza Rice announced that Iran can become fully isolated if does not halt uranium enrichment and processing. She reminded that the UN Security Council could take actions grounding on Section 7 of the UN Charter and introduce stiff economic sanctions against Iran. Rice said that Iran still had a chance to change its policy adding if Tehran cleans up its act then any and every thing will be discussed by the US.
