Russian is concerned with reports that have become quite frequent on a possibility of military strikes against energy facilities in Iran, in particular, its nuclear objects. Russia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Sergey Lavrov announced at a meeting of President Vladimir Putin with the cabinet. From its side, as the minister said, Moscow will do its utmost to settle the Iranian nuclear problem in the political way.
Meanwhile, Lavrov says the Iranian leadership has given no satisfactory answers to IAEA questions concerning Iranian nuclear activity, at the same time, various forecasts in the media increased concerning a possibility of the USA striking Iran. In particular, the US president allowed such a possibility in his recent statements, Lavrov said. We shall do our utmost to reach negotiable decisions, he is quoted by RTR as saying.
Earlier, US Vice President Dick Cheney, while being on a visit in Australia, announced at a news conference that he did not exclude a possibility of striking Iran because of its refusal to fulfill demands of the UN Security Council resolution, in particular, to halt uranium enrichment. At that Cheney noted that it could have been a gross mistake to let a country like Iran become a nuclear power. He also said that Iran should not be allowed ignoring opinion of the international community.
