In spring, series of NATO referenda expects Ukraine
Under an initiative of Ukraine’s Communist Party, on March 25 a consultative referendum will be held in Kiev concerning Ukraine’s joining NATO, member of the Communist Party faction, MP Alexander Golub told reporters today, a REGNUM correspondent in Kiev informs. The MP said that the referendum will result in the Supreme Rada passing the law on guidelines of foreign and domestic policy that excludes mentioning of the country’s Euro-Atlantic policy.
Results of our referendum will become the basis for guidelines of foreign and domestic policy law that will be adopted by the anti-crisis coalition in April or May, Alexander Golub said. If President Yushchenko vetoes the law, I am sure the anti-crisis coalition will be able to surpass it, the Communist Party member added. Besides, he informed that apart from the Ukrainian capital, analogous NATO referenda will be held in other regions of the country, including the Western ones, starting from March 11.
