Ukraine will not accommodate ballistic missile defense systems: Defense ministry
Ministry of defense of Ukraine has not held talks with the US on possible accommodation of ballistic missile defense elements of this country on the territory of Ukraine; neither does it plan to hold such negotiations. REGNUM correspondent in Kiev reports first deputy minister of defense Leonid Polyakov to make the statement while reporting to the Supreme Rada on the issue on March 22.
The official informed that there are two ballistic missile defense systems in the world today: namely, the American and the Russian ones. In his words, there are two Russian missile defense stations in the Ukrainian territory: in Zakarpatie and on the Crimean Peninsular. In 2000-2001, Russia itself offered the US and NATO aid in the project of deploying US elements of ballistic missile defense in the European region, the official reminded.
