US Congress passed bill on Ukraine and Georgia’s joining NATO
US House of Representatives finally adopted a bill that supports Georgia and Ukraine’s joining NATO and envisages granting financial aid to the countries within frameworks of the assisting security program to prepare them for entering the alliance.
On March 16, the US Senate passed NATO Freedom Consolidation Act of 2007 unanimously.
Apart from Ukraine and Georgia, the list includes Albania, Macedonia and Croatia. The document says that the countries have shown significant progress on their way to NATO, fulfilling conditions necessary for entering the alliance. Now, it is President George Bush’s turn to speak.
In 2008, $12 mln will be allotted from the US budget to the countries. Overall, $30 mln are planned to be granted to them in 2008-2012.
