Ukrainian Communists propose to condemn US Congress at Supreme Rada special session
Ukrainian Communist Party condemns adoption of a bill supporting Ukraine’s joining NATO by US Congress, says a statement released by the party today, reports a REGNUM correspondent.
We assess such actions of the US administration as rude interference over Ukraine, violation of commonly acknowledged international norms and direct threat to Ukraine’s sovereignty, the statement runs. The Communist Party also addresses the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry calling it for an adequate and coarse response to US congressmen interference into domestic affairs. It also finds it necessary to discuss the current situation at a Supreme Rada special session. Besides, the Communist Party says that President Viktor Yushchenko must obey to constitutional norms and call a nationwide referendum about joining NATO, as it is only the Ukrainian nation, but not US officials, who has the inalienable right to determine the country’s foreign policy.
Yesterday, the US House of Representatives passed NATO Freedom Consolidation Act of 2007 that supports Ukraine and Georgia’s joining NATO and approves giving financial aid to those countries within frameworks of assisting security program to prepare them for entering the alliance.
