Polish ex-president: Ukraine has no other way but towards EU and NATO
Polish ex-president Aleksander Kwaśniewski believes that Ukraine has no other way but join the European Union and NATO. As a REGNUM correspondent informs, he made the statement today during his visit to Donetsk.
I have already visited Donetsk, I know all its problems. I wish you success and I sympathize with your football team. Mariusz Lewandowski plays for it. It makes the relations between the countries better. Why Ukraine has a good perspective in the EU and NATO? There is no other way. I will be Ukraine’s advocate in the whole world. The Ukrainian perspective in Europe is possible. Ukraine is a European country, European values, and you are Europeans. Donetsk, Dnepropetrovsk, Crimea, Lvov, Kiev are European cities. We should treat them with respect. It is a necessary part of the European Union. You need to understand that you belong to a great continent with a fine history and nice future, said Kwaśniewski. According to him, two best events in Ukraine were the independence referendum in 1991 and the orange revolution in 2004.
World War II was a war between France and Germany, Kwaśniewski believes. Germany was fighting against France. Holland, Belgium and Italy were taking part in it. It was a war between Germans, French, Hollanders and Italians. Let us tell the truth at least today. And later six countries that suffered most in the war signed the Rome treaties that were the basis for the European Union, Poland’s ex-president said in Donetsk.
