Russian MP: Transdnestr is an extremely important regional junction
Russian peacekeepers in Transdnestr are Russia’s outpost in the Danube-Balkans direction, Russian MP, chair of the State Duma commission on human rights practices in foreign countries Natalya Narochnitskaya said in Bendery today at a ceremony of awarding Russian peacekeepers in Transdnestr by diplomas of the Russian Orthodox Church.
As a REGNUM correspondent informs, Narochnitskaya also said: I can imagine how hard it can be for servicemen fulfilling their duty to their homeland when they read libel in newspapers about themselves. I remember how in the high point of the military action in Chechnya so-called professional humanists were scoffing at Russian soldiers and their own compatriots were enjoying defeat of their own country. The situation in Russia has changed. People started acquiring the feeling of statehood and civicism. Transdnestr is an extremely important geopolitical junction in the region. People of more than ten ethnic groups have lived here for centuries being united by the common Russian language, culture and Orthodox belief. For the last decades, Russia has lost many geopolitical positions in the world, but sooner or later we shall restore them.
