Russia hopes for intensification of many-sided mutually beneficial relations with Armenia
Moscow is right hoping for intensification of the many-sided mutually beneficial relations of the allied partnership with Yerevan, which will be given the momentum by agreements reached during recent meetings of the Russian and Armenian presidents, says a statement released by the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs about the parliamentary elections in Armenia.
As the statement says, the elections were conducted on the basis of new Armenian law, where progressive electoral practice that has already been applied in European countries was reflected. The voting was held in a stable situation, with high voter turnout. Over 13,000 local and about 700 foreign observers were monitoring the elections, says the statement. It is worth mentioning that this time, assessments made by international observers including those from the CIS, OSCE and the European Parliament mainly coincided. They all say that preparation and conduction of the elections were transparent and in general complied with common democratic standards; progressive change that took place in the Armenian political system in recent years has been registered, says the statement.
