Russian embassy to issue visas for Georgian citizens within two days
Russian visas will be issued for certain categories of Georgian citizens within two days, a REGNUM correspondent was told at the Russian embassy in Georgia.
The consulate at the Russian embassy in Georgia recommenced issuing visas to Georgian ciotizens having permission from the Russian Federal Migrsation Service for temporary residence in Russia and to individuals, who intend to visit their keen relatives (parents, spouses or children) in case they have an invitation. Until now, Russia visas were issued only to those needing urgent medical assistance or in case of death of a keen relative in Russia. Georgian citizens still cannot visit Russia on tourist visas.
For the first have of the day, the Russian embassy received several dozens applications for a Russian visa. A long queue, which gathered in the morning, has almost scattered by the afternoon.
Issue of Russian visas to Georgian citizens was restricted on September 28, 2006, after another exacerbation in the Georgian-Russian relations. In early October, Russia one-sidedly cut off transport and postal links to Georgia.
