Berezovsky killed Sokolenko because of accusations in contacts with MI6
Director of the Federal Security Service Nikolai Patrushev promises to make public information on a Russian citizen, who gave himself up as being recruited by MI6, British intelligence service. This man came to us on his own will and reported on his cooperation. I think that later a criminal proceeding will be started on it. The investigation department is now occupied with it. We do not have to make it public immediately; we need to clear it up. And then we will inform the public on it, [we shall] not conceal anything, said Patrushev at a news conference in Kaliningrad after a session of the National Anti-Terror Committee.
Earlier, a spokesman for the FSB announced that this man, whose name remains undisclosed, told us that he had been recruited in London by MI6 officers. Besides, the man said that Boris Berezovsky insisted upon an immediate meeting with him, and Berezovsky allegedly claimed that the man should meet UK intelligence officers, FSB press office informs. Boris Berezovsky called it another provocation of Russian special services and an attempt to avoid responsibility for murder of Litvinenko. Besides, in an interview to Ekho Moskvy Radio, the tycoon proposed that the FSB was behind another killing. Allegedly, one of the figures in the Litvinenko murder involving radioactive polonium Vyacheslav Sokolenko died. Sokolenko flied to London with Andrei Lugovoi, who is charged with the murder by the UK prosecution, and Dmitry Kovtun, but he did not meet Litvinenko and went to see a football game. However, Sokolenko told reporters today that his death was Berezovsky’s fantasy. He added that he does not know what is going on. Sokolenko says that he got used to various assumptions since this crazy story started.
Berezovsky believes that the FSB reports are connected with an attempt to carry away public attention from the investigation of the Litvinenko murder.
