Opinion: Moldovan president conducts secret talks without taking into account public opinion
Leader of the Moldovan Party for Social Democracy Dmitry Bragish believes that Moldovan President Vladimir Voronin conducts secret talks with Russia on Transdnestr settlement without taking into account position of Moldovan people. Dmitry Bragish made the announcement on June 27 to Flux newspaper: I do know nothing certain about what the Russian and Moldovan presidents at the meeting on June 22. Moreover, it is unknown what they will discuss at their next meeting in Rostov. But it is evident for me, that Voronin’s secret talks are held without taking into account opinion of Moldovan people. I repeatedly reiterated that any decision made by the country’s leadership must be approved after consultations with the public. If President Voronin signs any document, without taking into account public opinion, he will prove once again how centralized the power in Moldova is, the politician said.
As REGNUM reported before, on June 22, Moldovan President Vladimir Voronin paid a work visit to Moscow, where he met Russian President Vladimir Putin. At the meeting, as the press office of the Moldovan president reports, vital issues of the Russian-Moldovan cooperation were discussed, particularly, the Transdnestr conflict settlement and renewal of Moldovan wine imports to the Russian market.
Earlier, Western and Moldovan media reported that Moldova and Russia were having talks to sign a bilateral treaty on the Transdnestr conflict settlement, according to which Moldova can be returned to Russia’s sphere of influence.
