PyeongChang residents shocked by IOC decision
PyeongChang residents (South Korea) are disappointed by defeat of their city’s bid for hosting the Winter Olympics in 2014. It is a second time running when they feel such disappointment. Four years ago PyeongChang lost to Vancouver, Canada, in competing for the Olympics 2010.
When International Olympic Committee President Jacques Rogge announced Sochi was the winner earlier this morning, crowd that gathered in PyeongChang central square became deathly silent. After some shock, residents of the city started lowering flags PyeongChang-2014 and Dream-2014.
Sochi defeated PyeongChang in the second round of voting with scores 51-47. The third candidate city, Saltsburg (Austria), left the field after the first voting.
