Estonian justice minister “decorates” his birthday party with swastika

Read it in Russian

Estonian Justice Minister Rein Lang celebrated his 50th birthday at a pub in Tartu, Estonia. The invitation to the celebration said that the high spot of the program will be “Adolf” show and asked to dress in the style of Munich beer houses of 1930s.

“Adolf” is a monoperformance presented in the Vanemuine Theater last fall. It is a monolog of Adolf Hitler before he committed suicide. The play was performed at the bar yesterday, and a huge flag with swastika was used a decoration of the stage, Eesti Eskpress reports today.

Answering to a request to explain choice of the style, Lang said it was his personal business that he would not comment on. In a special notice Lang explained to his quests that it was not a “stylish party,” uniforms and relevant symbols are not expected at the party. As the minister said, the 1930s, especially the first half, were a time of poverty.

The newspaper reminds that three years ago a scandal occurred in Europe after UK Prince Harry came to a birthday party dressed in Wehrmacht uniform with a swastika on his sleeve.

As REGNUM reported earlier, Justice Minister Rein Lang announced in May 2007 that ant-Fascists and other “interested people” planned to stage mass riots in Estonia on May 9 that were supposed to result in a coup. Besides, Lang publicly opposed introduction of punishment for denial of the Holocaust, as, according to him, such punishment puts limits on the freedom of speech.
