Chisinau expert: Moldova is victim of Russia withdrawing from CFE Treaty
Moldova is a victim of Vladimir Putin’s decision to suspend the CFE Treaty in Russia. Director of the European Institute for Political Studies (Chisinau) Viorel Cibotaru made the statement to Infor-Prim Neo news agency (Moldova). According to him, Russia’s withdrawal from the CFE Treaty is fixing the conflict situation in Europe regarding conventional armaments and, naturally, will in no way promote regulation of the Transdnestr conflict. Thus, the situation becomes unpleasant per se, and the Republic of Moldova becomes victim of the decision, the expert concluded.
As REGNUM reported before, the decree to suspend the CFE Treaty was signed by Russian President Vladimir Putin on July 14. According to the decree, the decision was caused by exclusive circumstances regarding the contents of the CFE Treaty of November 19, 1990 that concern Russia’s security and claim for immediate measures." Earlier, in May, Moscow imposed moratorium on the treaty until it is ratified by all NATO member-countries.
