Gennady Zyuganov: A long-term action is taken to worsen Europe’s relations with Russia
It is a long-term action taking place aimed at worsening the relations between Russia and all European countries. Such statement was made by Russian Communist Party leader Gennady Zyuganov, while commenting on the problems in the Russian-British relations that occurred after Russian diplomats were expelled from the UK and a claim was presented to extradite a Russian citizen charged with murder of Alexander Litvinenko, a REGNUM correspondent reports. Britain is the main initiator here; there are no practical claims to Russia, Zyuganov said. As for the criminal proceedings, they were offered to investigate. But åóðí are not going to do it properly, the MP said.
Speaking about extradition of Lugovoy, Zyuganov noted that our constitution does not allow doing that, they know it perfectly well, but they are trying to enter a closed door. One must give them their due: the British are specialists in provocations of such kind. Their intelligence can do this too. Politicians are involved in it. There is nothing new in it. To my mind, Britain has always been in the mainstream of the American policy. But this neck has often turned the American head. In this case, both Britain and America do not like that Germany, France, Italy, Spain and Europe in general are ready to improve the relations with our country. And for Europe it is exclusively important, Zyuganov said.
According to Zyuganov, it is important for Great Britain to conceal US attempts under the noise to deploy new missiles in Eastern Europe, get into the Baltics, get rooted in Caucasus and Central Asia.
As REGNUM reported earlier, the statement released by the EU said that the European Union expressed its disappointment concerning Russia’s incapability of cooperating constructively with the UK authorities. The document also says that the EU considered the Litvinenko murder as serious and heinous.
The EU stressed importance of the immediate and constructive cooperation with Russia on the issue and hopes for a satisfactory decision that touches upon serious issues that pose mutual interest for EU member-countries.
