Moroz will not oppose stripping Yushchenko of immunity
Chair of the Ukrainian Supreme Rada Alexander Moroz supported an idea expressed by Prime Minister Viktor Yanukovich to conduct a session of the Ukrainian Supreme Rada before the September 30 parliamentary elections in order to pass a resolution about canceling immunity and privileges for MPs and officials of all ranks including the president and the prime minister. The announcement was made by press office of the parliament today, reports a REGNUM correspondent.
There is no other way. Increased interest and painful reaction of the pro-presidential circles to Viktor Yanukovich’s statement means that they most of all are afraid to draw public attention to the criminal affair with the so-called dissolution of the Supreme Rada, Moroz said. All comments from the pro-presidential side stress that there is no parliament now. It cannot function under certain conditions only, defined by the constitution, and the conditions are not provided now, the speaker of the dissolved parliament said.
Alexander Moroz also noted that a draft bill was registered at the parliament long ago that contains proposals to amend the constitution regarding lifting the immunity. Initiators of it are the Socialists, the Communists and most members of the Regions Party. This means that at a parliamentary session (be it extraordinary or a regular one) the draft bill can be discussed. Evidently, this is what the prime minister meant, Moroz said.
