Kazakh Nur Otan Party starts procedure of forming Majilis: the media asked to leave the audience
Nur Otan, the only party that won the parliamentary elections in Kazakhstan, has launched the procedure of forming the Majilis. At present time, according to a REGNUM correspondent, the party’s political council is having its session in Astana chaired by Nursultan Nazarbayev, who is also the leader of Nur Otan.
The pro-presidential party won 88.41% of votes at the elections, which was a landslide victory. None of the rival parties managed to gain enough votes to overcome the seven-percent barrier to get into the parliament. So, the Majilis, lower chamber of the Kazakh parliament will consist of representatives of the ruling party only. Under the country’s law, the decision on who will get into the parliament from the party is made not in accordance with the party ticket, but by the leadership of the party.
The session of the political council to decide who from 128 contenders will get into the parliament started in Astana at 03:00 p.m. local time, but after several minutes reporters were asked to leave the audience.
