Russian foreign ministry: Investigation of murder of Russian in Estonia is making no headway
No results of the investigation of murder of Russian citizen Dmitry Ganin causes serious concerns in Moscow. As REGNUM is informed at the press office of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, for four months already the investigation has made no headway. According to the press office, on August 27, 2007, the Russian embassy in Tallinn sent a notice to the Estonian Foreign Ministry expressing extreme concern over the slow action of the Estonian law enforcers on the case of the Ganin murder. They also drew attention of the Estonian side that the pace of the investigation and its effectiveness do contradict the promises to spare no effort for the soonest objective investigation given by the Estonian leadership.
Dmitry Ganin, 20, a Russian citizen constantly living in Estonia, died of a knife wound to his chest received during the riots in Tallinn on the night of April 27. A criminal proceeding was instituted on the charge of murder. Dmitry Ganin was buried in Estonia on May 3. 13 persons were detained on the case on suspicion of beating Dmitry Ganin and attacking his companion, who was delivered to hospital with bodily injures. All of them are now released.
On April 26, Tallinn police used force to disperse a crowd of people in central Tallinn, who were protesting against demolition of the Bronze Soldier Monument. On the night of April 27, the Estonian government took a decision to dismantle the monument and it was done at dawn of the same day. On April 28, excavations of the remains of Soviet soldiers killed in World War Two buried there were started. On April 30, the Bronze Soldier Monument was unveiled at the Tallinn Military Cemetery.
