The right of a nation for self-determination is the only opportunity for legal settlement of Nagorno Karabakh status. The statement was made by Speaker of the Armenian Parliament Tigran Torosyan commenting on a statement made by Hrayr Karapetyan, Secretary of the ARF Dashnaktsutiun (ARFD) faction, that “if the OSCE Minsk Group for Nagorno Karabakh conflict settlement exhausts itself, we shall claim for re-uniting of Nagorno Karabakh with Armenia.”

A REGNUM correspondent quotes Torosyan as saying that he respects opinions of all parliamentary factions, but does not share the ARFD. The speaker reminded that one of PACE resolutions says that Nagorno Karabakh can separate from Azerbaijan on the basis of a referendum. However, unification with Armenia will be assessed as aggression of one Council of Europe member-country against another one, Torosyan said. The only possibility to reach the common Armenian goals, believes the speaker, is establishing two Armenian states.
